                                    Historic Interior Planning

Historic sites, whether residential, industrial or commercial, have organic histories.  We work with you to consider all the possible alternatives for your site, such as, should it reflect a specific point in time?  Should it be based on the story of one individual, or tell the story of the entire history of the site?

Based on the conclusions, we can help research, write, and if requested, implement a historic interior plan that recommends appropriate furnishings and interior treatments.

View of the Ohio from the Rankin House
For the Rankin House, an Underground Railroad stop on the Ohio River, we worked closely with site staff, stakeholders and other advisers to create an interpretive furnishing plan.  View project page

                                    Pres. Eisenhower's House in Gettysburg
For the Eisenhower National Historic Site in Gettysburg, we wrote a historic furnishing plan.  The site is interpreted to 1961 to 1969 (when Pres. and Mrs. Eisenhower lived there full-time) and includes several outbuildings, including a stable, Secret Service office, and teahouse.

We selected interior finishes, including historically accurate wallpaper and paint colors, for the Davenport House Museum in Savannah.  We also oversaw the implementation of the historic furnishing plan, including de-accessioning and acquisitions of objects, and the purchase of wallpaper, fabrics, etc.  The restoration received the 2005 Preserve America Presidential Award.

The staff and board are very pleased with your report and look forward to implementing your suggestions.  It will be a great tool.

We wrote an interpretive furnishing plan for Bulloch Hall, an 1839 historic house museum (home of Theodore Roosevelt's mother).  This included examining the mission and interpretive goals, reviewing the existing room arrangement, and recommending short- and long-term changes.  View project page
